The purpose of acho.lol is to preserve Puerto Rican popular culture.
No pretentiousness. We document things, people, sayings, slang—and yes, even gossip. This is not meant to be a bourgeois or elitist project. We want to collect every layer of Boricua life, from the most ordinary and informal to the most serious and illustrious.
Too much of our culture goes unpreserved because people fear looking [[en/Artículos/¿Quién es Fabio?|cafre]] or feel compelled to sanitize culture until it looks presentable. This wiki exists to do the opposite.
The general tone is informal and playful, because popular culture often works that way. That does not prevent us from covering serious subjects. The mission is ultimately to share, preserve, and teach Puerto Rican culture and history—especially modern history—in an accessible way.
We may live on a small island, but the culture is enormous: countless regionalisms, variants, words, and ways to express the same idea. We want them documented.
Informal does not mean careless.
- Information should be as accurate as possible.
- Claims that cannot be verified must be clearly marked, for example with a warning callout.
And no, this is not trying to become an academic encyclopedia written by formal historians. There are far too many memes here for that.
